The Woodbine Apartments
1119-1125 Bryson Street

The Woodbine Apartments were built in 1914. This red brick apartment building originally had six one-bedroom apartments and seven two-bedroom apartments in it.   The architect for the Woodbine apartments was Morris Scheibel of Stanley and Scheibel, a prominent local architect who designed many downtown buildings as well as many homes for the wealthier families on Youngstown's North Side.   Mr. Scheibel lived in the Woodbine Apartments in 1914 with his wife Rose, later moving to 1702 Elm Street.

There were two known fires in the Woodbine Apartments, one in 1990 and another in 2001,   which gutted a third floor apartment and the roof above it at the corner of the building which faces the intersection of Woodbine and Bryson streets.

The Woodbine Apartments were ordered vacated by the city of Youngstown in March of 2002 because the water was shut off due to non-payment of the water bill by the previous owner. On June 13 of 2005, the building was purchased by a new owner and it is currently undergoing renovations and historical restoration.

The building is slated to be reopened in twelve to eighteen months. The building will have eight efficiency, six one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments after renovations are completed. The entire cost of the renovations is estimated at around $250,000 to $300,000.

As a contributing property to the Wick Park Historic District, the Woodbine Apartments are already listed on the National Register of Historic Places
